Questions about therapy
If your question is not here, ask it during a free 15-minute call.

How do I get started?
Email me to set up a free 15-minute call, or book a session directly online. Both options are on the contact page.
Can a Registered Social Worker provide psychotherapy?
Yes. In Ontario, Registered Social Workers are one of the professions authorized to practise psychotherapy. I am registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and with the Alberta College of Social Workers, and I am trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy through ICEEFT.
Is therapy with you covered by insurance?
Most extended health plans cover services by a Registered Social Worker (RSW). You receive a receipt after each session to submit to your insurer. Check how much your plan covers each year, and whether couples sessions are claimed under one partner. See fees and insurance.
Do you offer in-person sessions?
No. All sessions are online by secure video. Many people find it easier to open up from home, and there is no travel time. See how online therapy works.
Which provinces do you serve?
I am registered in Ontario and Alberta, so I can see adults and couples who live in either province. You need to be in Ontario or Alberta during your session.
Can I have therapy in French?
Yes. I am fluently bilingual and offer every service in English or French. Couples are welcome to switch between languages if that feels more natural.
How long are sessions, and how often do we meet?
Sessions are 50 minutes. Most people start weekly or every two weeks, then space sessions out as things improve. We decide together.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on what you bring and what you want to change. Some people come for a few sessions to get through a specific situation; others prefer longer work. Many couples in Emotionally Focused Therapy notice real change within 8 to 20 sessions. We review progress together along the way.
Who do you work with?
Adults (18 and over) and couples. I do not currently offer therapy for children or teens.
Is what I share confidential?
Yes. What you share stays between us, with a few limits set by law: if there is a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, if a child may be at risk, or if records are ordered by a court. I explain these limits in our first session so there are no surprises.
Can you prescribe medication?
No. Social workers do not prescribe medication. If medication might help, I can encourage you to speak with your family doctor or nurse practitioner, and we can work alongside that care.
